An Afternoon of Irish Gaelic

An Afternoon of Irish Gaelic (Tráthnóna na Gaeilge) The Circle will offer an Irish language program at the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels in a half day event. All are invited to attend this day from those with no Irish to native speakers. Come and be with us if you are curious about the language, want to improve or use your Irish or to help learners develop their skills. It promises to be an enjoyable afternoon with classes, two lectures and time for conversation, refreshments and pastries in between. Three fluent and gifted teachers from Ireland will be teaching the classes and delivering the lectures: including Hilary Mhic Suibhne, Irish Language Lecturer, NYU; Muireann Ní Chuív, Irish Language Teacher, Irish Arts Center, NY and Caoimhe Nic Giollarnáith, Irish Language Teacher, Irish Arts Center, NY. Fall Term Irish Language Classes


The Irish Gaelic Circle of Connecticut offers classes in the Irish language for those who live in Western Connecticut or the lower Hudson Valley of New York. This is our 18thh year teaching Irish in Danbury, CT. The Fall term offers classes at three levels: Beginner, 2nd Year and Intermediate. The Beginner and 2nd Year classes will be held on Saturday mornings starting Sept. 21st for a 10 week term at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center.

The Intermediate class will meet midweek (Tuesdays or Wednesdays) starting on Tuesday, Sept. 24th and will be held on Skype. So you can live anywhere and still be able to attend the class from home.

Classes meet for approximately for an hour and 15 minutes. Classes are taught in a friendly atmosphere so you learn to write, read and speak the language and enjoy yourself as you learn.

Irish Gaelic Afternoon - Lá na Gaeilge 27 ú lá Mí na Bealtaineí

Our first Lá na Gaeilge was a great success with 20 people in attendance from as far away as New Hampshire.  In addition to classes with Hilary, Rhona and Muireann, there were lectures on the history of the Irish language (Muireann, Béarla agus Gaeilge) and Irish poetry (Rhona, as Gaeilge).  Bronnadh Fáinne Airgid ar Christine Eddy freisin.  Comhghairdeas le Christine! -Seán

Mass in Irish Gaelic - St. Peter's in Danbury, CT

There will be a Mass for St. Patrick on Saturday morning at 11 AM on March 16th.  Several of the readings and prayers will be in Irish Gaelic.  All are invited.  Bígí linn!

Irish Language Day - Lá na Gaeilge

The Irish Gaelic Circle of Connecticut will be holding its first Lá na Gaeilge (Irish Language Day)

Fulbright Scholar, Rhona Ní Chearbháill and native speaker, Muireann Ní Chuív (former Fulbright Scholar) and Limerick native, Hilary Mhic Suibhne will be teaching the classes.

Lecture: The Irish Language at Home and Abroad

The Fairfield County Gaelic American Club is presenting another lecture in its continuing series of Irish History lectures on February 10, 2012, from 2-4 p.m. The guest lecturer will be Lisa Nic an Bhreithimh, a Fulbright Scholar in Residence at the University of Connecticut. The lecture topic is: Tir gan teanga, tir gan anam: The Irish Language at Home and Abroad from the Past to the Present.
